Frequently Asked Questions
When should my child start preparing for the 11+?
For many children, beginning preparation around July of the year before their entrance examinations provides valuable time to build strong foundations before moving into more school-specific preparation.
Every child is different, however, and the ideal starting point will depend on their current ability, confidence and the schools they are applying to. I am always happy to discuss individual circumstances with families.
⸻
What areas of the 11+ do you support?
I provide comprehensive support throughout the 11+ journey, including:
Mathematics
English

Non-Verbal Reasoning

Exam techniques and confidence-building
Personalised homework and revision planning

Every lesson is tailored to your child’s individual strengths, learning style, target schools and educational goals.
⸻
Which schools do you prepare children for?
I prepare children for a wide range of UK independent schools, grammar schools and boarding schools.
As every family’s goals are different, preparation is tailored to the specific schools and examinations each child will be sitting.
⸻
Which entrance examinations do you prepare children for?
I have experience preparing children for a variety of entrance assessments, including:
London independent school entrance examinations
Grammar school entrance examinations
ISEB Common Pre-Test
School-specific entrance assessments
Preparation is personalised to suit your child’s chosen schools and examination pathway.
⸻
Do you offer online tuition?
I provide face-to-face tuition for families in London and online tuition for families across the UK and internationally.
Online lessons are interactive, engaging and supported with personalised homework and carefully selected online learning resources.
⸻
How long are lessons?
Lessons are typically 60 minutes.
⸻
How often should my child have lessons?
Most children have one lesson per week.
As entrance examinations approach, or where additional support is required, some families choose to increase the frequency of lessons.
Recommendations are always made based on each child’s individual needs.
⸻
Do you teach during school holidays?
Lessons continue throughout most school holidays.
During holiday periods, lesson days and times can often be adjusted by mutual agreement to accommodate family travel, different time zones and changing schedules.
Any periods when I am unavailable will always be communicated well in advance.
⸻
Do you set homework?
Homework forms an important part of the learning process and helps children consolidate what has been covered during lessons.
Homework is personalised to each child and may include written tasks, online learning activities and revision exercises targeting areas that require further development.
⸻
Do parents receive feedback after lessons?
If parents are available at the end of a lesson, I am always happy to discuss what we covered, how the lesson went, areas of progress and the homework for the following week.
If this is not possible, I will send a brief update via WhatsApp summarising the lesson, progress made and any homework set, ensuring parents remain informed of their child’s development.
⸻
Do you help with school interviews?
When children are invited to interview, I am more than happy to dedicate their usual tutoring sessions to interview preparation.
Lessons focus on building confidence, developing clear communication skills and preparing children for the types of questions commonly asked during independent school interviews.
⸻
Do you provide school admissions guidance?
Alongside tuition, I offer a separate School Admissions Guidance service for families who would like personalised advice on choosing suitable schools and understanding the UK admissions process.
To provide meaningful recommendations, I recommend working with a child for a minimum of eight weeks before arranging a school admissions consultation.
⸻
Can you help families living outside the UK?
I work with families across the UK and internationally, supporting parents who may be unfamiliar with the UK education system.
I provide guidance on school admissions, examination pathways and preparation strategies, helping families feel informed and confident throughout the admissions process.
⸻
Do you use any online learning resources?
To complement my online tuition, I recommend that families purchase an Atom Learning subscription.
I use Atom Learning to set personalised homework, monitor progress between lessons and identify areas requiring further practice. The subscription is purchased directly by families and provides clear explanations for questions, allowing both children and parents to review mistakes and continue learning between lessons.
⸻
Do you support children with different learning needs?
Every child learns differently, and I tailor my teaching approach to suit each child’s individual learning style, strengths and areas for development.
I have experience supporting children with a wide range of learning needs, including ADHD, dyslexia and autism. My lessons are carefully adapted to help each child feel confident, engaged and able to achieve their potential.
⸻
Are you DBS checked?
I hold an Enhanced DBS certificate and am committed to providing a safe, professional and supportive learning environment for every child.
⸻
What happens during the first lesson?
The first lesson is an opportunity for me to get to know your child, understand their current strengths and identify any areas that require additional support.
This allows me to begin tailoring lessons to their individual learning style and educational goals from the very beginning.
⸻
Can I book tuition for a short period before the exams?
Wherever possible, I recommend beginning preparation well in advance of entrance examinations.
This allows sufficient time to build strong foundations, develop confidence and tailor preparation to each child’s individual needs. Earlier preparation also enables us to identify and strengthen any weaker areas before moving into more exam-specific practice.
⸻
How do I book lessons?
If you would like to enquire about tuition, please complete the enquiry form on the Contact page or send me an email.
I will be happy to discuss your child’s individual needs, answer any questions and explain how I can support your family throughout the 11+ journey.
