Word Relationships & Analogies
Saturday 10th | 9:30 - 10:30am UK time

Verbal Reasoning questions often test whether children can recognise the precise relationship between words, rather than simply spotting words that seem connected.
In this masterclass, children will learn how to approach these questions systematically.
We will explore:
Synonyms and antonyms
Categories and associations
Part-and-whole relationships
Object and function relationships
Word analogies
Identifying the precise relationship between two words
Applying the same relationship to a new pair
Eliminating unsuitable answers
Working efficiently under time pressure
The session will include guided examples, interactive practice and increasingly challenging questions.

Non-verbal Reasoning Masterclass
Mastering Matrices & Missing Shapes
Saturday 14th | 9:30 - 10:30am UK time
£30 per child | Limited to 12 places
Matrices can initially look complicated, but children can learn a systematic method for identifying the rules hidden within them.
In this masterclass, children will learn how to:
Look for patterns across rows
Look for patterns down columns
Identify rotation and reflection
Recognise changes in shading
Identify addition and subtraction of shapes
Track movement and position
Combine multiple rules
Approach challenging matrix questions logically
Children will work through increasingly challenging examples before applying the techniques independently.

Verbal Reasoning Masterclass
Codes & Verbal Reasoning Problem Solving
Saturday 12th | 9:30 - 10:30am UK time
£30 per child | Limited to 12 places
Codes can seem intimidating when children first encounter them. This masterclass will teach children how to approach coding questions logically and systematically, rather than guessing.
We will explore:
Letter and number codes
Identifying patterns within codes
Translating information systematically
Using known information to solve unfamiliar questions
Eliminating incorrect answers
Combining coding skills with wider Verbal Reasoning techniques
Working accurately under time pressure
Children will practise a range of questions, progressing from straightforward examples to more challenging problems.

Frequently Asked Questions
Who are the Masterclasses suitable for?
The Masterclasses are designed primarily for children in Years 4, 5 and 6 preparing for the 11+, although suitability can vary depending on the child’s current level.
Are the Masterclasses suitable for children who already have an 11+ tutor?
Absolutely. The sessions are designed to complement existing 11+ preparation, particularly for children who don’t regularly receive Verbal or Non-Verbal Reasoning tuition.
Does my child need to attend every month?
No. Each Masterclass is a standalone session, so children can book individual classes according to their needs.
How many children are in each class?
The paid Masterclasses will be limited to 12 pupils to allow children opportunities to participate and ask questions.
How does the class take place?
All Masterclasses take place live online via Microsoft Teams.
Will my child receive anything after the class?
Yes. Each paid Masterclass includes a strategy guide, practice worksheet and answers/explanations to allow children to consolidate what they have learned.
Why should my child attend the masterclasses?
Verbal and Non-Verbal Reasoning form part of many 11+ entrance examinations, but they are not areas that every child has regular opportunities to practise at school.
The masterclasses give children focused practice across a wide range of reasoning question types, helping them to understand the different ways questions can be presented and develop effective strategies for tackling them.
This can be particularly valuable because reasoning questions often become much more manageable once children understand what they are looking for. With regular exposure and practice, children can build both their confidence and their ability to approach unfamiliar questions.
The skills developed are also relevant to assessments such as CAT4, which are used by many independent schools to assess children's reasoning abilities. Some schools ask prospective pupils to provide CAT4 results and may take these results into consideration as part of their admissions process.
The masterclasses are therefore designed to complement a child’s existing school learning and tuition, rather than replace it.
